Why Use Facebook Advertising – Social Media Marketing 101

Here is why Facebook ads are better than old school/traditionalist methods of advertising:

1. Everyone is on Facebook. Okay, not everyone, but over 80 percent of people are, and on average, 50 minutes are spent each day on Facebook/Instagram per person. It is quickly becoming the medium of information for the entire world, so it is extremely important to take advantage of the platform.

2. Targeted marketing. Targeted marketing is when you only show your advertisements to people who are potentially interested in your product or service. Traditional advertisements, like a billboard for example, will show your message to everyone driving down a road. But most of the people driving down the road are uninterested in your business, so you could save a lot of money by not advertising to those people. Facebook ads can be shown to specific demographics: location, age, gender, interests, pages a user has liked, and even re-targeting (advertise to people that have visited your site before). The targeting can be extremely specific, so that you can be sure that you’re spending your money in ways that will generate sales.

3. It’s cost effective. For a few dollars you can show your ad to thousands of people. If your ad is engaging (Read how to create an engaging Facebook ad), you can even gain more reach organically (organic reach is when users share your ad with their friends).

Engaging ads combined with targeted marketing on Facebook can generate more sales for less money than traditional advertising methods. This means a much higher ROI (Return on investment), and success for your business.

Facebook ads are a little bit different in nature than traditional methods, so the advertisement must be engaging. It wouldn’t be advised to just throw a picture on Facebook with a phone number and company logo and start advertising it, there are way more effective ads that take a bit of time and effort, but when done right can make a world of difference.
