Overall the DFW area doesn’t have the best sports scene. The Dallas Cowboys haven’t been good in over twenty years. The Mavs were looking good but y’all know how that went, thanks Nico! Still, I love a cool sports bar. The energy is always upbeat, and outside of actually being at a game, it’s the best place to watch one. Rex’s Bar & Grill is the newest sports bar/restaurant in the Fort Worth area. It’s located in the University Park area, right next to Ol’ South Pancake House. Which coincidentally shares the same owner, Rex Benson.
While it is a sports bar and grill, it’s not one of those rinky-dink divey spots you might be picturing. Inside is pretty nice with polished stone floors, wood-paneled walls, some sports memorabilia from both local and national teams. Being a sport themed bar, they have plenty of televisions to watch a game on. I counted about fifteen tv’s inside in the main dining area, with more by the bar. Inside is very spacious and also features a large private room with more tv’s that I can only assume is available for rent if you have a large party.
There’s a cool patio outside as well with a huge twenty foot big screen as the centerpiece. Heaters sit outside next to the tables for when it gets cold, but also a large fan above the whole patio for when it inevitably gets hotter than the surface of the sun here in Texas. So hopefully that thing keeps everything cool this upcoming summer. The vibe of this place seems pretty family friendly as opposed to some other more “adult” sports bars I’ve been to, not that those aren’t fun. I went on a Saturday morning and there was a lot of families with children outside on the patio with us. A part of the patio is turf and Rex’s has some outdoor games to play to keep the young ones busy.

The menu offers a decent variety of American comfort food. Everything from burgers, pizza, wings, to fish, steak, and ribs. My girlfriend and I got deviled eggs as an appetizer, which were so good. They were topped with candied bacon, red jalapenos, and smoked paprika. If you check this place out I highly recommend them. For our entrees I ordered the Big Rex’s Burger, which was an interesting mix of bacon, cheese sticks, jalapenos, and a fried egg, all on top of a short rib and brisket ground beef patty. I’m not going to lie, it was a messy endeavor trying to eat but well worth it. If you get that then plan on taking a nap afterwards because it kind of knocked me out if we’re being honest.
My girlfriend on the other hand ordered a protein bowl with salmon and quinoa, which she enjoyed as well. Oh and side note, the sweet tea was great, and I’m definitely a connoisseur of sweet tea so trust me. One thing I noticed was that the service was really good. Our waiter was super attentive and even from the moment we walked in the hostess and other workers were very kind, more so than a normal restaurant. So that’s always a plus. Bottom line: Rex’s Bar & Grill is a solid choice if you want some good food while you catch a game, check it out y’all.
