I was born a couple of decades too late to experience the early 1960s American diner; fortunately, West Side Cafe is pretty close. Located in West Fort Worth, it offers classic country-style meals that taste just like Momma used to make ’em. I’ve been three times now, and I love it. Despite the outside looking a little small, it’s surprisingly large inside with two dining areas and a bar-style seating area up front. Pictures of veterans and old military planes/choppers adorn the walls giving the place a vintage feel. The staff are all super nice, and it was apparent that they get many regulars, as I overheard the kinds of conversations that you would only have with a friend. I think that’s part of the charm here. People come knowing they will get good food in a “homie” environment.
Both times that I have gone I’ve ordered the chicken fried steak with a side of mashed potatoes and fries. Carb City population : Me! It’s so good though, and I know I’ll be back again for the same thing. I’ve also tried the meat loaf once and thought it was great as well. They serve an array of southern-style country food such as what I mentioned above, plus soups/salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, fish, steak, and much more. It’s a really hearty menu, and that’s not even counting the breakfast items! From which I’ve heard the pancakes are amazing. So I’ll definitely have to swing by for that.

Everybody in the area can always go to an IHOP or Waffle House to get their fix of what West Side Cafe is serving. It’s just that West Side Cafe does it better. Plus you support a local business that has been open for almost 30 years, and for good reason. West Side Cafe is a good choice for some great comfort food, check it out and make it your next go-to spot.
