Gustos

My friend group and I have had a few discussions on what we think the best food is. A food or meal so good that you could have it every single day forever and not get sick of it. For me, that food is burgers. Nothing crazy, not one of those burgers that has a million toppings and sauces on it that you can’t even finish because your stomach is calling in sick right then and there. I love a good old fashion cheeseburger. Normally when I visit one of these places to review, I had heard about it online or by word of mouth. I stumbled across this one though while attending a concert years ago. Gustos used to be a food truck behind Tulips and next to Low Doubt bar (yes, the one I reviewed earlier, go check it out!) So in between sets I came outside and tried it out, it was love at first bite. Since then, they moved to a brick-and-mortar location off Magnolia and have quickly earned many accolades for being the best burger in Fort Worth.

Moving from a food truck to a physical location offers a big challenge, what will your identity be? I think it’s a challenge that Gustos nailed. First of all, the music. Y’all know I’m a big music guy and every time I go to Gustos they’re playing indie rock /alt rock music. Stuff like The Strokes, Gorillaz, Radiohead. So already that is a huge plus in my book. The interior decoration also matches that vibe, with upcoming concert flyers posted on the windows, graffiti of the name Gustos everywhere, and red solo cups for your drinks. I feel as if this place is a dive bar but for food. That’s not to say that the place is dirty or anything, it’s a nice spot. Their patio is fairly large as well, often with live music on weekends.

For the food, I always get a Gustos double. It’s exactly what it says, two smash patties, cheese, and Gustos sauce. I’ve tried the normal double cheeseburger and there’s minimal difference, but the Gustos double is slightly better. The fries are also pretty good as well, but the serving sizes are large so you can definitely split a side of fries with somebody. I don’t really have much more to say about the food, it’s super good that’s all y’all need to know! The location being on Magnolia is also great, eat here to start your evening, have a few drinks at their bar, then maybe bar hop after along the road. All in all it’s one of my favorite places to grab a bite, and if you haven’t tried it, do yourself the favor.
