Carshon’s

A good sandwich is one of the best things there is. It’s a staple of American cuisine and stands high along burgers and pizza. You could always go to Subway to get one and there’s nothing wrong with that (except that there is). Or you could go to Carshon’s and see what you’ve been missing.

Carshon’s is a deli that specializes in its sandwiches. Located in southwest Fort Worth, Carshon’s has built up its reputation for 97 years. That alone is a crazy feat, so I had to go and figure out what makes this place so special. I think the downfall of so many places are the fact that they try too hard to be something. Whether that’s a bar that tries too hard to be hip, or a restaurant that tries to hard to be quirky or fancy.

When the novelty wears off people tend to realize how subpar the whole experience is and they stop coming back. Carshon’s doesn’t try to be anything, it’s a simple deli. With only some seating in the back and a counter up front to order specialty meat to go, it’s a pretty “bland” place. And I say that with the utmost praise. They know their niche and they let that do the talking.

Their menu consists mainly of specialty sandwiches, some sides, and dessert. The sandwich I chose was called The Rebecca, which consists of pastrami, cream cheese, and smoked turkey with russian dressing layered on three pieces of egg bread, grilled. Seems like a lot, and it kind of is, but it all worked so well. It was so good and the egg bread was a great touch. It was juicy without being messy and crispy on the outside without being too crunchy. Overall it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had here in Fort Worth and will definitely come back. One of the other popular sandwiches they have is called The Rachel, which comes with corned beef and smoked turkey, melted swiss, coleslaw and russian dressing on rye, also grilled. These two are the famous duo so I’ll be sure to get this one next time as well.

For dessert I ordered a coffee ice cream pie. It was very rich and definitely tasted like coffee, my only complaint was that it was a tad bit hard to cut through, it was ice cream though so it’s not that big of a deal. It was very very good and was a perfect finish to my lunch. This place only takes cash too, which is odd but just keep that in mind when you go. And yes, you should go. Carshon’s doesn’t have a fancy interior or gimmicky foods, they just serve good sandwiches. Check them out soon.
