I am a huge fan of Asian cuisine. I love chines food, I love sushi, I (now) love Korean BBQ, and so much more. So of course it caught my attention when I heard talk of the best restaurant in Fort Worth being a Chinese food place. Teddy Wongs is somewhat new here to the Fort Worth food scene, opening in October of 2023. Since then it has won many awards, best new restaurant, best dumplings, restaurant of the year, etc. I’ve been there many times before, but this was the first time since starting this Cowtown Compass project. Let me take you through it!

First off, it’s off of Rosedale in Near Southside district of Fort Worth, already a cool spot, popular for it’s many restaurants/bars. Their building in particular though doesn’t seem too crazy. It’s sort of small, and doesn’t pop out in any distinct way. Very subtle for the amount of press that it gets. When you walk in you see a small shop-like area to get to-go dumplings and beer/wine. The hostess stand is also there, and once your party is ready they take you off to the side area, which is the main area of the restaurant. It’s very nice inside, with black linen tablecloths and wine glasses already on the table. It is a casual environment but people do dress up to go have dinner there. Definitely make a reservation though as it does get busy!
To start off, you’re offered the drink menu, which has a large selection of wine. By now y’all know I’m not a wine drinker so this doesn’t matter too much to me but it’s always appreciated. I go for a Michelob Ultra poured into a glass because I’m feeling fancy. For apps we started out with spicy cucumber salad, two pork bao buns (that had their logo on them, very cool!), and oil wontons. All three were exceptional, specifically the oil wontons which I’ve heard are a customer favorite.

All the entrees are served family style. Essentially really large portions for the whole table to share. This time we got orange chicken, Texas Mongolian beef, and fried rice. Man let me tell you, I am a huge fan of orange chicken. I could really eat it all the time and be happy. This is one of the best orange chicken dishes I’ve had. Everything is good, and like I said, it’s a large portion so I always end up taking food home for the next day. The service here is super good as well, the waiters are all very good about giving recommendations on food pairings or wine pairings. They’re knowledgeable and are constantly making sure you’re taken care of. It definitely gives the place a little bit of a “fine dining” feel. All in all, when I want Chinese food, this is my go-to spot. Swing by for dinner next time, trust me you’re going to love it.
