Texas’ summer weather is on the way out, and that only means one thing for me. Patio time! I love being outside, it’s unfortunate that I can’t really do that for much of the year here because it’s 100 degrees in the middle of the day and I don’t want to be sweating into my food or drink. Thankfully we’re entering prime time patio weather. I’ve had my eye on this place since the beginning of summer and figured it’s a good time to check it out. Rogers Roundhouse is an American style beer garden located right next to University Park.

They say they built it to feel like an extension of your own backyard, and honestly I can kind of see it. It’s a very casual kind of place, and its proximity to a large apartment complex and neighborhood mean that there are a lot of people who use it as a place to hang out rather than a place to “go out to”. If that makes sense. The indoor area is a pretty good size, and has multiple TV’s and a bar area to sit at. The outdoor patio area is the real gem though, as it is very large and has TV’s as well. There’s two sections to the outdoor patio, one half is gravel and allows pets, while the other has a roof over it with a concrete floor. Mist fans are all over to help beat the heat but like I said, I’m only coming here now because of the slightly cooler weather. Specifically 80 degrees the night I went. I came to watch the Cowboys play the Packers so it was a little busier than it normally probably is on Sunday nights. They have live music every Friday as well which always adds to the ambiance so I’ll have to check that out soon.
As for the food, they have a pretty basic menu, offering American and Tex-Mex style foods. I went with a friend of mine and got the RH burger, which included two thin wagyu patties, shredded cheddar, lettuce, pico, and roger’s sauce. My friend got the cheesesteak which had philly beef steak, grilled onions, and peppers, all on a hoagie roll. Both with a side of french fries. I really enjoyed my burger, and she enjoyed the cheesesteak. The fries were really good too, they had this seasoning on them that made them very flavorful. For me though, the star of the show were the funnel cakes we got for dessert. I have fond memories of being at six flags or the State Fair and eating funnel cakes. You can’t really find them anywhere else so I was excited when I saw them on the menu here, and for only $5! Beat that State Fair! They were delicious, I think I could eat them everyday. So I will definitely be coming back just for those.

Overall I really enjoyed this place, is it the best spot in the world? Not necessarily. Can I come here and have a solid evening watching football and having a couple of drinks with the guys? Every single time. Definitely come by and check out Rogers Roundhouse. Make sure to get the funnel cakes!
