I want to start off by saying this place is simple. There’s nothing crazy on the menu, there’s no wild decor inside, it’s all very simple. That’s what makes The Lunch Box so great. Anytime I want to grab a bite to eat, I have to wonder what I’m in the mood for, some places have too much going on and it makes the decision a bit difficult. The Lunch Box is somewhere that I can reliably say yeah let’s go, and not worry about details. There’s always seating, the menu is small but everything is good, it’s quite literally one of the best places for lunch.

I initially heard about this place because people online were raving about them having the best chicken salad sandwiches in Fort Worth. At the time, I was on a chicken salad kick so it was a no brainer to go visit. Finding it was a tad bit weird, as it’s in an alleyway between two different stores. You have to walk back a bit to go in, and it sits on the side of this unassuming courtyard area next to a coffee shop. The only thing showing it’s there is their green sign hanging off the side of the front door. The inside is very quaint. It’s open seating so if you’re dining in you can sit wherever you’d like. If you’re getting it to go then you can order at the counter up front. There’s some charm in getting it to go as they give it you in a lunch box, hence the name.
Their menu isn’t very large, they have sandwiches and salads as the main courses, and a handful of sides to choose from. You’re given the option to make it a “lunch box” which includes your choice of sandwich, 3 sides and a drink. That whole thing is only $11 which in this economy is pretty dang great if you ask me. I always opt for either a chicken salad sandwich or a turkey club sandwich, with tomato basil soup (absolutely fantastic), chips, and a cookie. I’ve never had anything bad here either, everything is great and the sandwiches aren’t skimpy on the meat either. You leave feeling full and satisfied, but not gross. Everything feels clean after you eat it, which makes sense, nothing greasy going on here.

These kinds of places are some of my favorite. Would I take a visitor from out of town here? No probably not, as there’s nothing particularly amazing about this place, but would I come here everyday if I had to for a quick bite? Absolutely. The quality/price/convenience factor is unmatched and makes it a staple in my rotation of food places. If you’re ever on the fence about where to go grab a bite, head over to The Lunch Box.
