I’ve never been to Japan. I’m not sure what it’s exactly like, as the only thing I have to base opinions off of are online videos and pictures. With that being said, it looks like a really really cool place! It seems to have a rhythm like NYC or Chicago, but with a culture that is truly its own. Ichiro Izakaya feels like walking into a small section of what I described, right here in the middle of Fort Worth.
This place is new to the South Main area, opening only a couple of months ago. You’re greeted with their bright neon sign, featuring a fish jumping out of the ocean and the words Ichiro Izakaya Yakitori and Bar. Yakitori means a Japanese dish of skewered or bite sized chicken pieces grilled over charcoal. Izakaya on the other hand means a Japanese Pub. So from the name alone you know what’s about to go down inside. The place isn’t too big inside, so I’d recommend not going at a rush time or you might have to wait a bit. As I said earlier, this does feel like a little Japanese Pub. There’s some seating in the restaurant but also a bar to sit at, facing the cooks. That’s where I was sat, and I’m glad I was because it felt a bit more fun seeing what the people next to me were ordering and discussing with them.

Their menu is mostly what their name implies, a lot of small single serve grilled skewers items. Each item was around $3-$5 and the waiter encouraged ordering throughout the meal as you go. It was a cool way to eat, and everything was delicious. I tried egg rolls, beef tongue, scallops (amazing), beef ribs, and Unadon. The Unadon was my favorite, it was grilled eel on top of a bed of rice. Definitely going back for that. I also had a Sapporo (Asian beer) that was pretty good. The ambiance was cool inside, laid back, and fun. Not the place where you have to worry about dressing up or presenting yourself a certain way. It also had a couple of larger tables in case you wanted to go with a group of friends. This might be one of my places higher up in my list for Fort Worth, I liked it a lot and absolutely recommend going to try it out.
